Designing Chromatose: Weblog #2!

December 23 is quickly approaching. It may not seem important to some - the
day right between Christmas and Yule, big deal right?

For us, it was a deadline. Two months ago, roughly, we decided we'd have
the blue world of Chromatose in at least an Alpha stage of playability. Of
course, here we are, less than a week away, and that goal is decidedly out

Designing Chromatose: Weblog #1!

Chromatose already has a playable demo version free. However, it's a
very bare bones version of basically just gameplay with some art
attached. Chromatose has been submitted as a student project for IGF.
We’re now working on a vertical slice of what we want the final version
to be. The big problem we had was one of communication.

Game Jam and new website

Klepto is our new project, being coded entirely on an iPad, using the
wonderfully fun app Codea. It is being developed as part of a Game Jam
here in Montreal: the Mount Royal Game Society's
"Downtown Trimester Game Making Adventure".
We'll have a 'vertical slice' (a working prototype of
part of the game, sort of like what's online right now for Chromatose).

In other news, we've updated our website! It's not finished yet, but I hope
you like the new look!

After our fairly successful first public appearance at ComicCon Montreal,
the Chromatose demo is now live! Those who happened upon us at ComicCon got

Enjoy!

We’ll be there all weekend showing our

for each level. Fight to keep your score on top! Each person who plays our
demo will receive the very first piece of Fabulam merch, a Chromatose pin
button. We hope to see you there!

Chromatose : The Story

In the world of Colour, all is not well. A Dark Tint has invaded and is slowly
corrupting the previously vibrant colours and their inhabitants. Lands of
red, blue and of green are slowly, uncontrollably, losing all sense –
becoming Chromatose. The free will of each corrupted inhabitant has been
driven away – but not destroyed. When enough willpower has gathered
together, a more powerful being is formed: the Avatar. (That’s you!) It’s
your job, using your unique ability to change colour, to repair the land,
lead the surviving inhabitants to freedom, and rid the land of the Tint!

Chromatose!

Chromatose is Fabulam’s first game. It’s a game with small levels (one-screen-fits-all),
with certain unique puzzle elements. Most of the challenge lies
in the navigation mechanic, which is reminiscent of Asteroids in its
aesthetic, but more akin to Star Control’s Super Melee controls. It uses a
physics-based movement system without inertia. Completing a level requires
a familiarity with the controls that can only come with experience, and is
difficult to explain. The solution? Try it out for yourself! The playable
demo will be up and running very soon after ComicCon, so look for it on the
17 of September!
